About
I am an abstract artist working under the instruction of James Little following in the tradition of artists like Agnes Martin, Frank Stella, and Ruth Asawa.
My artistic explorations are driven from my formal education in mathematics and architecture. While I loved the design process in architecture, I always yearned to build something intimate with my own hands. When I found the Art Students League, a whole environment of painting was opened to me, where I could study color and craft my visions.
Color is the primary focus of my paintings. The structures of my pieces are uniform in design, and different patterns and movements emerge as colors transition. Geometry is often used in architecture to create large monuments, but I also find beauty in the geometric design of everyday objects. I draw inspirations from traditional basket-weaving and textiles, which require an immense amount of rigor and patience.
My work is quick to paint, but labor-intensive to prepare. I see my practice as honoring the many women who toil for their families and care for others, with the color and light spun from their fingers creating a rich and deep legacy of giving. It celebrates the daily work that keeps the world moving.
